WEHUB Named as 2012 Canadian Water Leader
January 9, 2012 – The Water and Environmental Hub (WEHUB) project has been named by Water’s Next (Water Canada magazine) as a “Canadian Water Leader” for 2012.
The WEHUB platform’s scalable and robust architecture supports a distributed approach that allows users to filter, search and access data from multiple information sources, and have it available through a single window. In addition, the cloud-based design is scalable and highly robust, while minimizing software, operational and maintenance costs.
The WEHUB project team works collaboratively with industry, government, academia, and the public to develop innovative, interactive web based tools and applications that enable users to easily search and access a broad range of environmental datasets, and the contextual information required to understand them. This in conjunction with the project’s social network and data sharing features enables users of all types to discover new sources of knowledge, and share their own data.
To access this data, WEHUB has created an open source and cloud-based solution that provides a secure, highly customizable web-based platform onto which new geospatial-data layers and applications can be easily added. The WEHUB is compatible with common Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards (e.g. Web Map Service (WMS), Web Feature Service (WFS), Sensor Observation Service (SOS), WaterML, GroundwaterML, and others) for external data integration.
